Dear friends,

“We are outspoken about our optimism.”

So begins the 10th annual letter from Bill & Melinda Gates. Having witnessed two decades of dramatic reductions in child and maternal mortality – and greater opportunities for women and girls – we couldn’t agree more.

But continued gains depend on reaching further, to even the most remote communities. Equity must be baked into our plans. We must constantly monitor, adjust and improve our designs to target those most in need, ensuring access for less-served populations.

At MCSP, we think creatively about how best to close these gaps – through our work with faith leaders, investments in digital health, and by measuring what we value. And as vital contributors to the global movement to prevent child and maternal deaths, we share USAID’s vision that transforming lives requires empowering local groups to build their own stable, resilient communities through a path of self-reliance.

We hope you’ll join us online or in-person on February 27th to recognize the incredible power of strong health systems to elevate reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health. On February 21st, we’ll host a Twitter chat with experts and advocates on these same topics. Please add your voice!
