Over the last five years, MCSP has supported 32 countries on their journey to self-reliance for preventing maternal and child deaths. As the Program comes to a close, we look back on achievements and lessons learned across diverse technical areas.
From shaping global dialogue, policy, and strategy, to strengthening households, communities, and health systems, to building capacity of individuals and institutions, MCSP catalyzed improvements in maternal and child health in countries with the highest burden. This webinar gave a high-level overview of MCSP’s global and country impact, with testimonials from beneficiaries and examples of work with countries to institutionalize progress.
A new resource was also launched at the event: Critical principles from USAID’s flagship Maternal and Child Survival Program to help countries on their journey to self-reliance.
This one-page brief succinctly outlines 10 principles that emerged from decades of work across the continuum of reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health, and nutrition programming. MCSP applied these principles in our global work to institutionalize and sustain progress. To build on this legacy and accelerate progress, we recommend that countries and future programs focus on these 10 critical areas.
