To prepare for the development of an operational plan for malaria elimination in Madagascar, MCSP, in collaboration with the President’s Malaria Initiative and the Ministry of Public Health/National Malaria Control Program, assessed the state of preparedness of the elimination and pre-elimination districts, measured by the operational capacity of health facilities and readiness of the health system as a whole. The objectives of this assessment were to:
1. Document the availability and functionality of key malaria commodities, equipment, materials, job aids, guidelines, and trained staff.
2. Measure the knowledge and capacity of health professionals to provide febrile illness and malaria case management services.
3. Document the role and needs of community health volunteers in malaria surveillance and control.
