Gender-Based Violence E-Learning Module in Ghana

Publish Date: June 2019
Author: MCSP

The Government of Ghana requested MCSP’s assistance in developing an e-learning module for pre-service education in midwifery and nursing. It was developed in partnership with Ghana’s Ministry of Health and validated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.

The learning objectives of the module include:

  • Define gender, sex, violence, and gender-based violence (GBV)
  • Explain the difference between GBV and other types of violence
  • Describe Ghana’s laws related to GBV
  • Explain how providers can ensure high-quality, respectful healthcare to survivors of GBV

The module takes less than one hour to complete, and includes only “need to know” information, rather than “nice to know,” serving as a supplement to the existing midwifery training curriculum, rather than replacing it. Each module includes a pre- and post- assessment quiz, an animated and narrated lesson and a case study. Participants’ scores on the post-assessment quiz are sent to the facilitator.
